Permian High School Band To Perform At Midwest Clinic in Chicago

The Permian High School Band is making final preparations for their performance at the Prestigious Midwest Clinic.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our program, Permian High School, and for all of Odessa,” said Mike Watts, Director of Bands at Permian High School. “Performing at the Midwest Clinic is an opportunity that only a few ensembles from across the country get to experience. This is a real honor!”
Guest conductors for the Permian concert will be Dr. Harry Begian, Dr. Richard E. Strange, Mr. JR McEntyre, and Mr. Charles E. Nail. Mr. David Jackson will also be featured as a trombone soloist.
Other ensembes scheduled to perform at the Midwest Clinic include the Dallas Wind Symphony and the United States Air Force Band.
In addition to their performance, the students will dedicate some time experiencing Chicago. “They are going to see a Blue Man Group show, eat deep-dish pizza at Giordano's, experience the view from the Hancock Observatory, and walk down the Magnificent Mile,” said Phil Anthony, Senior Travel Planner at Director's Choice Tour & Travel.
The Permian Band will present a concert in the Permian High School Auditorium at 4:00 PM, on Saturday, December 16th. Admission is free.
In addition, the Band will present a free concert at Murchison Performance Hall, on the campus of The University of North Texas in Denton on Monday evening, December 18th, at 7:00 PM. The performance at the Midwest Clinic is scheduled for December 20th at the Hilton Towers in Chicago.
The Permian High School Band has received numerous awards and national recoginition for excellence. Mike Watts has been the director of the Permian Band for the past 10 years and has been on the band staff at Permian for 20 years.
