Round Rock High School Band to Tour Hawaii
October 23, 2006

The students in the Round Rock High School Band from Round Rock, Texas, will be touring the island of Oahu in Hawaii March 11-17, 2007. The band will travel with 156 students and family members.

The itinerary includes an Ali'i Polynesian Tour, where they will meet with a local Chief who will share some of the customs and cultures of the native Polynesians and spend a day having "fun in the sun" at a private island. The students will also tour the North Shore of Oahu, hike to the top of Diamond Head, sail on Catamarans, snorkel in Hanauma Bay, shop at the International Marketplace and Hilo Hatties, and enjoy an authentic luau. The highlight of the tour will be a day at Pearl Harbor touring the Bowfin Submarine, the Battleship Missouri, and the Arizona Memorial, which will provide a wonderful educational opportunity for the students.

"The Round Rock High School Band community is looking forward with great anticipation to its spring trip to Oahu. Many parents are taking it upon themselves to school their students on the history of Pearl Harbor, and attempting to help prepare the students for something that is really going to "come alive" from the history books. The many cultural offerings on our trip are also very important to the students. Most students and parents have not had the chance to travel to Hawaii yet, and are working to make this the best trip they have ever taken," said Ed Stein, the director of bands at Round Rock High School.
